Question Types & Settings

To customize your survey, you can drag and drop in a variety of different question types from the Custom Questions section on the right side of each survey.

If you are working with the Concept Tester solution, you can use the dedicated (Concept) custom questions, which will automatically populate your concept images when you add the questions to your survey(s).

Question Types Include:

  • Scale Questions
    • 3, 5, 9-Point Scales: Scale questions that allows customizing all of the scale labels
    • So the respondent only sees the end points of the scale labeled, use labels like these:
      1 - Dislike Extremely
      2
      3
      4

      6
      7
      8
      9 - Like Extremely
    • Note: Highlight's analytics suite understands the first scale choice (Scale Value 1) to be the "worst" for calculations such as top box and bottom box
    • JAR Scale - A special 5-point scale that already has a "Just about right" option as the center point
    • Custom Scale - A scale question that allows adding up to 11 answer choices
  • Multiple Choice
    • Defaults to single-select
    • To enable multi-select, update setting to "Allow Multiple Selection"
    • Once Multiple Selection is toggled on, you can set specific requirements around the number of items a respondent can select: Unlimited, Range, or Exact Number
      • Unlimited: respondents can select however many choices they want
      • Range: set a min and/or a max to enforce a specific number of selections (e.g. between 3 and 5, up to 5, at least 3)
      • Exact Number: require a specific number of selections (e.g. 3)
    • To enable choice randomization, enable "Randomize Choices" setting
    • Includes ability to add “Other - Specify” answer choice and/or "None of the above"
      • If None of the above AND a specific choice number / range are included, selection of none of the above will override the required number / range. (e.g. if the required number is 3 choices, and the user selects none of the above, they will be able to proceed)
  • Picture Choice - A special multiple choice question type that can either be single- or multi-select, where images are used for the response choices
  • Ranking - Testers will need to rank the choices provided
  • Open-End - Free-text entry response that includes instruction to testers to be descriptive in their responses
    • You can turn on a required character or word count for this question type
    • You can entire either a min (at least this many), a max (no more than this many) or both (something between these numbers)

For any questions that allow image uploads:

  • Supported File Formats include PNG and JPEG
  • Images should be at least 230 x 230 pixels, and no larger than 2560 x 2560 pixels
