Testing Guest Links

You're setting up a study on Highlight (or quality checking one before it goes live) and are testing your own guest link(s) before sending links out to real participants.

If your guest link isn't behaving as expected while you're setting up or testing, try these steps in order:

  1. Confirm the link hasn't expired or been deactivated. Links may expire or be disabled from the Customer Platform at the conclusion of a project.
  2. Confirm you're using a supported browser
  3. Use a separate private/incognito window per link you test. This is the single biggest fix when testing studies with multiple guest links — your browser can hold onto an old session and keep showing you the same survey no matter which link you click next. Instructions for your browser: Alternatively, fully sign out between links if you can't use private windows.
  4. Know what to expect from studies with multiple guest links: by default, a single guest link may randomly serve one of several survey variants — it is not currently possible to guarantee which variant a given guest link shows without a custom setup. If your test plan requires guaranteed per-variant links (e.g., you need controlled completes per variant), contact support to have them manually configured for your study.
  5. Still stuck? Contact support with the study link, the guest link URL(s) you're testing, and whether private browsing is an option on your network.
