Break Down Survey Responses with Data Tables
Overview
Crosstabs delivers detailed data tables for multiple choice and opinion scale questions. Each table breaks down responses by product and segment, with statistical significance to highlight key differences.
Accessing Crosstabs
Crosstabs unlocks after all responses are collected and your surveys close, ensuring you see final values. To access Crosstabs, navigate to the Insights section of a project, then click into the Crosstabs page within Insights.
Exploring Data Tables
Crosstabs turns each survey question into its own table, making it easy to compare results. Here’s what you’ll see:
- Data for Multiple Choice and Opinion Scale questions.
- Tables match the order and labels in Explore.
- Rows represent answer choices or aggregations; columns show products (and segments if selected).
- Each table includes the number of respondents per product for that question.
Understanding Rows and Aggregations
Rows vary by question type, showing either individual choices or summary aggregations:
- Multiple Choice: Individual answer choices only.
- 5-point questions: 5 choices, Top 2 Box, Bottom 2 Box, Mean.
- 9-point questions: 9 choices, Top 2 Box, Top 3 Box, Middle 3 Box, Bottom 3 Box, Bottom 2 Box, Mean.
- Sigma: The sum of all choice proportions which is usually 100%. For multi-select questions, Sigma exceeds 100% (e.g., 150%) due to multiple picks. A Sigma below 100% means some respondents skipped the question, though most surveys require answers.
Filtering with Selectors
Shape your tables with three selectors:
- Product Selector: Pick Products or Product Groups. Add new groups below the selector or via Tools > Product Groups.
- Segment Selector: Choose Segments. Create new ones below the selector or in Tools > Segments.
- Confidence Level Selector: Set one level as 99%, 95% (default), 90%, 85%, or 80%.
The number of columns grows with your product-segment combinations.
Interpreting Statistical Significance
Crosstabs highlights key differences with interactive visuals:
- Cells show percentages (e.g., 65% for an answer choice) or a number (e.g., 7.8 for Mean).
- Green cells: Values significantly higher than others at your chosen confidence level.
- Hover effect: Hover over a green cell, and yellow highlights show cells significantly lower than it.
- Testing uses pair-wise, two-tailed tests: t-tests for Mean, z-tests for proportions. Columns with fewer than 15 responses aren’t tested.
Tip: Hover over a green cell to compare it instantly with no letter notation needed.
Exporting Your Crosstabs
Save your analysis as a CSV file:
- Click the Download CSV option at the top of Crosstabs.
- Download includes your selected settings, with standard letter notation (like Scorecard) instead of hover highlights.
- This includes the Products, Segments, and Confidence Level that is selcted.
Tip: Export to share detailed breakdowns with your team.
