Exploring Survey Results in Insights

Overview

The Explore page in Insights lets you view and analyze survey results as they come in. With dynamic visuals like bar charts, word clouds, and ranking tables, you can compare products, custom segment responses, and export your findings, all in real time. This article walks you through everything you need to know to make the most of Explore.

Viewing Your Survey Results

Explore displays results for each survey question with visuals tailored to the question type. If you're running product surveys, Insights automatically compares your products side by side. Here's what you'll see:

  • Scale & Multiple Choice Questions: Presented as bar charts.
  • Open-Ended: Shown as word clouds with sentiment analysis.
  • Ranking: Displayed as ordered lists with average rankings per product.

Customizing Bar Charts

For Opinion Scale and Multiple Choice questions, bar charts give you flexibility to adjust the view:

  • Switch between horizontal and vertical layouts.
  • Toggle between response count (total answers) or percentage (proportion of answers).
  • Sort the data by:
    • Survey order: As it appeared in the survey.
    • Alphabetical order: By answer choice.
    • Count: From highest to lowest responses.

Tip: Check the legend at the top of each chart to see the number of responses per product for that question.

Analyzing Open-Ended Responses

The Open End Analysis feature gives you powerful AI-driven insights into qualitative feedback. Here's what you can do:

  • Read an AI-Generated Summary that provides a concise overview of key themes and sentiments
  • Use Sentiment Analysis to see how responses are tagged (Positive, Negative, Neutral, or Mixed) with counts and percentages
  • Apply Sentiment Filtering to focus specifically on Positive or Negative feedback
  • Explore AI Topic Modeling which automatically identifies the most relevant topics discussed in responses
  • Use Topic Filtering to view responses related to specific themes
  • Combine filters for both Topics and Sentiment for granular analysis
  • Utilize the Keyword Search bar to quickly find responses containing specific terms
  • Filter by Product and Segment groups using the Filter by dropdown

Tip: The summaries and topics are generated routinely throughout the day, ensuring your analysis reflects the latest responses. Learn more about how Highlight uses AI systems to analyze your data responsibly.

Note: Currently, the AI-generated topics and sentiment analysis data are not included in the Responses Download raw data file.

Comparing Products and Segments

Narrow down your results with selectors:

  • Survey Selector: Choose which survey's data you want to analyze. By default, you view the Trial Survey, which allows for product comparisons. You can also select other available surveys such as Screener surveyPre-trial surveys, or Post-trial surveys, if your project includes them.
  • Product Selector: Choose from a dropdown of all Products and Product Groups. Note: The Product Selector is not used when you select a Screener, Pre-trial, or Post-trial survey, as these surveys are not product-specific.
    • Need a new Product Group? Click the link below the dropdown or head to the Product Groups tab.
  • Segment Selector: Pick from existing Segments, like demographics or survey questions. You can use the Segment Selector to analyze responses for all survey types, including Screener, Pre-trial, and Post-trial surveys.

The product legend shows your selected Products and Segments with consistent colors across all visuals for easy tracking.
