AI Chat
Ask Questions About Your Results in Plain English
Overview
AI Chat answers questions about your project the way a colleague would. Ask "which flavor came out ahead, and why?" and you get the finding in a sentence, the figures behind it, and a chart where one helps. It works out which surveys and questions to look in, so you don't need to remember how the study was set up before you ask.
The figures come from the same place the rest of Insights gets them, so what AI Chat quotes and what your Crosstabs show are the same numbers. When it can't answer something, it says so instead of estimating.
Where to Find AI Chat
AI Chat is the second tab in Insights, just after Summary. The page it opens is headed AI Insights Assistant.
There's no Settings sidebar here. Where the other tabs give you selectors for survey, products and segments, you put it in the question instead, like "…among women over 35" or "…on the chocolate variant".
AI Chat isn't available on a Multi-Project Dashboard. Open a single project to use it.
Asking Your First Question
Type into the box, or start from one of the three suggestions.
- What are people saying in their own words?
- Which one came out ahead, and why?
- Which differences are big enough to trust?
Then keep going in the same thread. Follow-ups hold what you've established, so "and how does that split by age?" works on its own.
Tip. Start narrow. Ask about your whole study at once and AI Chat may come back with That question was too broad to answer in one go. One survey at a time, or a few questions rather than all of them, gets you further.
What It Can Read
A single conversation covers every survey the Survey selector offers on your other Insights tabs, including your screener, opt-in, wrap-up and product surveys, so you never have to say which survey a question lives on. Custom profiling surveys aren't included.
From there it reads.
- Any question, broken out by product or by segment, and tested for statistical significance where a column has at least 15 responses behind it.
- Open-ended answers, including the written summary, the topics both found automatically and added by your team, the sentiment split, and the verbatims behind any topic. Narrow the quotes by product, segment, sentiment or a search term.
- Your Scorecard, once you've saved metrics to it.
- Penalty Analysis and Alienation Analysis, on projects set up for them. Don't see them? Ask your account manager.
- Your segments, with their rules and counts. If none fit what you're asking, AI Chat offers to build one, and asks before it does.
- Highlight's own help articles, so "what is penalty analysis, and should I use it here?" gets a real answer with a link.
Like every other Insights tab, it respects Full Completes Only. See Response Types.
Charts, Tables and Files
Ask to see something and a chart or table appears beside the answer, with the same Aggregation, Chart Type, Orientation and Sort controls you get on Explore. Download CSV below it saves exactly what's drawn.
A comparison with a lot of columns comes back as a table instead, because a chart that wide stops being readable.
When there's something worth keeping, AI Chat offers it as a file with a preview and a Download button.
Attaching Images
Click the image icon to attach up to five images with your question, in JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP. Concept boards, packaging, shelf photos. They stay in context for the rest of the conversation, so follow-ups can keep referring back. Type a question alongside them. An image on its own won't send.
Your Chat History
Every conversation is saved and named for you after your first question. Open Chat History on the left to reopen, search, Rename or Delete past chats, or click New chat to start a fresh one. Each belongs to the project you started it on.
Your chats are private to you. Other people on the project have their own and can't see yours.
If an answer stops partway, because you closed the tab or your connection dropped, you'll see This answer was interrupted. with an Ask again button. It often finishes on its own, so give it a moment before retrying.
